Rental Reimbursement Coverage

car-rental-agency-300x219Rental Reimbursement Coverage is an optional car insurance coverage that helps pay for a rental car while your car is being repaired due to an accident, theft, vandalism or severe weather. You may think your policy covers rental cars but come to find out they do not. Having a “full” coverage insurance policy does not always include rental reimbursement. You can check your policy or contact your insurance company to verify.

THERE ARE TWO WAYS RENTAL COVERAGE CAN BE PAID

1. The approved rental company will direct bill your insurance company.
2. You can pay for the rental up front then submit your receipts to the insurance company for reimbursement.
(There is often a per-day and per-accident limit for coverage. You will need to refer to your policy or contact your insurance company for details.)

HELPFUL FACTS REGARDING RENTAL COVERAGE

1. Rental reimbursement only covers your rental car while your car is being repaired due to an accident, theft, vandalism or severe weather. It does not cover a rental while your car is in the shop for normal maintenance repairs.
2. In most cases you are allowed to rent a car that is similar to the one being repaired.
3. If your policy includes collision and comprehensive coverage on your regular vehicle this typically transfers to the rental car you are driving. Check your insurance policy or contact your insurance company to verify.
